There’s supposedly a little dispute between Telstra and the ACCC about some advertising of the Next G Network. This is a little section from a public affairs manager in Telstra that she posted on her blog…

The ACCC’s performance wouldn’t be so egregious if it applied the same standards to others. We now fully expect the ACCC to investigate Optus over their advertising that suggests tigers can read newspapers and monkeys use phones. [nowwearetalking.com.au]

Quality :) I love it when our media people decide to be cynical. Have a read of that whole post… quite interesting, and I do tend to agree with the majority of what she writes.

Vendetta?

There have been five anti-competitive notices handed to Telstra for which no court proceedings have ever sought.

The penalty of $3m/day for the action has never even once been attempted to be recovered.

Sounds like the Telco is under extreme grace not a vendetta.

Can’t speak for the anti-competitive behaviour… most of it has been in the area of ADSL from my understanding, which is not where I work.

As for extreme grace… wanting to regulate everything that Telstra sell? That doesn’t sound like grace to me. Sounds like power-hungry.

I think it sounds like doing what they should be doing - ensuring that a monopoly holder does not exceed itself and attempting to protect the consumers it is supposed to be protecting.

Actually over the same period, the ACCC sent 4 notices to Optus, 3 to Vodaphone, 9 to Virgin and 1 to Soul.

The ACCC has actually held a rather even handed approach. I note that you’re a Telstra employee, so defence of your employer is understandable.
