And everything rhymes in Happyland
I finally got my hands on a copy of the album Welcome To Happyland by the band Happyland - a collaboration of Janet English from Spiderbait and Quan Yeomans from Regurgitator. The album was released in 1998, but I wasn’t really interested in the sound until the album was out of print and very hard to find. Thankfully, the wonders of ebay helped me out :)
The sounds that come from this album make it incredibly obvious of the Spiderbait/Regurgitator co-operation- not necessarily all of the tracks, but quite a few. When you listen to the sounds Regurgitator made on Unit (c. 1997) and that Spiderbait made on Ivy and the Big Apples (c. 1996) that were both released before Happyland, you can hear a lot of the sounds of both bands in Happyland’s tracks.
And you can read into the future as well: there’s sounds that come through on a few tracks that you can definitely hear in the following Regurgitator album, …art (c. 1999) - especially the work that they did on the song Are U Being Served?, a dance track with samples from the tv show.
It gives you a good idea on just how much musical influence Janet and Quan have on their respective bands.

I do believe either my brother or myself still has the “Don’t You Know Who I Am?” cd single somewhere. We went through a BIG Spiderbait/Regurgitator/Happyland phase in the late 90s.
