day 4
So we’re up to day 4 of the new job now. I thought the go was gonna be that this week was a bit of a handover, and that I’d start taking over customers on Monday. That went out the door at about 9am on Tuesday morning as I sat down at my desk and got given several things that needed doing!
But I’m loving it. I haven’t really had this much contact with customers for about a year now. When I was looking after the sales team, I wasn’t looking after any customers. And I barely had any customer contact in the short time I began that wireless data role. So to arrive here and be given customers to manage within 24 hours - I love it :) It’s been a little annoying that the majority of things I’ve been doing this week have been about running around putting out fires… but you get that. And I need to start somewhere!
The thing with this patch that I’m in - I’m the 5th different person to fill this role in the last 12 months. So consequently, all the AEs (account executives - the guys that own the whole customer relationship: mobiles, voice and data) and customers are a little cranky about that. So it’s gonna be a lot of relationship building with these AEs, and getting them to trust me and trust me when I say that I’m committed to being here for more than 12 months. That’ll be tough, but it just means it might take a few weeks before the opportunities start getting confidently thrown at me.
The good thing is that running around fixing all these cranky customer issues that are existing at the moment is giving me a great chance to prove to these guys that I do mean business and that I am damn good at my job.
Bring it.
