this. is. awesome.

Brand new iPod released overnight. Just as rumoured, a touch-screen iPod modelled on the iPhone.

It has wifi built-in, and also has Safari as an application too. Everything else about it is as awesome as the iPhone, which I already am in love with. The obvious thing missing is of course the radio transmitter that would make it a mobile phone.

I sat here watching that guided tour about the iPod, and just so wanted one. But in the end, I think I will hold out for an iPhone early next year. The iPod is great… but it’s only half and iPhone. And for only a little bit more (probably), you should be able to be a 3G HSDPA iPhone in early 2008.

That will be the ultimate device. It will kill everything else.

All very nice, but why do I want something that stores little more than one third of my music collection, just so I can watch extra animations that respond to my finger movements?

I welcome the announcement of the 160GB iPod though…..

Yeah, I too wondered that. It will just store all my music now. But no podcasts, photos or videos that I have. So yeah, the size sucks a bit.

That’s also one thing that’s a little bit disappointing about the iPhone.

I don’t think it will set the world on fire just yet*, for the same reasons that the computer and internet didn’t kill Television just yet.

Media is merging, but it’s still a bit expensive for the average end consumer. In about 20 years, things will be nicely integrated.

*We’d be all dead in a miasma of flame and destruction.
