blogging on a plane [but posting later]

Ahhh, finally on a plane heading out of Sydney for a week… it feels so nice.

Thursday night at camp was the stay-up-late night – after the leaders had put their kids to bed, they all came back to our leaders’ room and hung out well into the night, eating various forms of junk food, playing poker… and then at about 2:30 in the morning, singing many different songs to God accompanied by our never-ending stream of pianists in our ranks. It was quite beautiful. We all paid for it the next day though with some extreme tiredness. But it was just such an amazing time to be together and so it was totally worth it.

I just felt so incredibly blessed by the team of leaders I got to work with – they were such an amazing bunch of people with such a varied amount of talents and skill and experience. And all from very different places across Sydney, so not many of us knew each other before this camp… but as with most camps, a very special bond gets formed when you practically live with each other for a whole week. It all is so easy though when there is so much love and selflessness all over the place. Again, beautiful.

So right now I’m sitting on a plane somewhere over northern NSW on my way to Hervey Bay. I went to bed at about 8pm last night, and slept right through til about 8am this morning - a very solid effort I feel! Looking forward to just doing almost nothing up there this coming week, and just seeing what comes up. And all week, I will be able to get excited [and perhaps just a little stressed again] about the senior high camp back at Kedron in just over a week.

I decided to step up to do the program director role for that camp as well when I was asked. I felt that it would be a much quieter and less intense camp than the week just gone, and I will still be able to be very involved with the campers because of that. Quite a few of the younger leaders from the week just gone will actually be attending this camp as campers, and so it will be fantastic to talk to them about how they felt they led during the week just gone and helping them become even greater leaders than they already are.

I continue to be so amazed at the people that I meet through Kedron – we had a young guy, only 14 years old, lead with us just last week. The guy is just brilliant and will surely become an amazing leader. Because, at 14, he’s already very good at gaining young kids’ respect, but also able to pull that discipline card out when he needs it. That’s something that experienced leaders struggle with, and so to see him already being able to pull that one is awesome to watch.

Now to sit back, drink some Coke, and enjoy the fact that I gained an hour in today because Queenslanders don’t believe in daylight saving :)
