when PCs die, they die very well
I’ve had this crap work PC for about 15 mths now. And for that whole 15 months, I’ve kept it free of every piece of spyware and malware, and nothing has ever really gone that wrong with it. That’s a feat in itself, and something I’m proud of.
But somehow, in the last 24 hours or so, some piece of software has snuck its way into my PC, and it is playing havoc with the stupid things! Whatever software it is, has successfully hijacked and screwed with my proxy settings, brought up pop-up windows *every* time I visit a webpage (although it usually doesn’t work because of the above), and just now, it has crashed the main “explorer” app that runs Windows (so my desktop and start menu have now disappeared!).
I managed to download Spybot, and so it’s going through and scanning and hopefully fixing. And then maybe I’ll have a usable computer again.
*sigh* it would be lovely if Telstra used Macs.

Aye. I don’t miss those PCs at WSHS one bit my friend :)
But eventually it started sort of working like a computer ought to! That was after the Telstra IT man tried to tell me it was because I had too many shortcuts on my desktop. Haha!

oh dear – well if that is internal helpdesk support then all that helpdesk hopelessness I encountered as a customer suddenly makes sense.
