the rental hunt begins

Holiday is coming up. Very soon. We leave for Brisbane on Sunday, and it is very exciting!

I’m getting nervous about coming back though… cos we have decided that after our holiday is when we’ll begin the hunt for somewhere to live. We’re gonna rent first, and buy sometime later. And the media is definitely enjoying reporting on the “rental crisis” and how there are not many properties for rent, and big lists of applicants, etc., – it’s all just made me quite nervous about how tough our hunt is going to be. Let alone how much it’s going to cost.

We’re starting early – our plan is to have found a place for me to move into by the end of November. It would be nice to not have to worry about that in December. So we’re giving ourselves plenty of time, and hopefully that will mean that although it may be frustrating, we’ll find somewhere in enough time.

People have told me that we have a lot of things in our favour – we’re both in “professional” type jobs (apparently being a teacher is a very good thing, so I’ve been told!), we’re getting married – and those things are apparently pleasing to Real Estate agents and landlords. Fingers crossed.

Still… after all the looking around and going through applications and stuff, having our own place is gonna be awesome. I’m not overly looking forward to living there on my own (I’ve never been excited about having an empty house), but it will be awesome to have something that is completely ours, set up the way we want it, kitchen and lounge room the way we want it… it will be cool. :)
