home again home again
It was a long drive, but it was broken up nicely, and now we’re both home again.
We left Hervey Bay about 7am yesterday. The traffic wasn’t too bad all the way down through QLD. Once we hit the 110km/h zones just before Brisbane, things started to flow much more nicely. We stopped for a pie just north of Brisbane, and then pushed on through to lunch at Grafton Oportos. And then eventually we cruised on into Crescent Head, just south of Kempsey. The parents of one of Debbie’s friends have a holiday house there, and they were kind enough to offer us a bed for the night. We felt very welcome and looked after – far more than we could’ve asked for.
Debbie and I went for a wander through Crescent Head in the evening, and then again this morning to look at some markets. It’s a cute little town. I think I’d really like to have somewhere like that to regularly escape to on a holiday that could be “ours”.
Then today’s driving was much less. We headed towards Taree to visit Debbie’s Grandma at Old Bar. She was lovely and had baked a couple of cakes for morning tea and filled us in with tales of the family, and even some family history that Debbie didn’t know about. From there, it was only an hour and a half to Heatherbrae, where it was a good quality steak & kidney pie for lunch for me, and a vege quiche for Debbie.
By that stage, it was nap time for James, and Debbie drove the F3 down into Sydney. We got off the F3 at about 3:15… great time. 6 hours from Crescent Head to Sydney with two fairly long stops.
2797km… 4 full tanks of petrol (200L)
One of the best holidays I’ve ever had. And makes me very much look forward to spending the rest of my life with Debbie. :)
Now, after a decent nap in my own bed, it’s off to church.
