Listening to some OC Supertones while I be a nerd. I tend to think that OC Supertones are [were] the best ska band. Does anyone care to dispute?

Upgraded my site to WP 2.6 this evening. There’s a couple of cool additions… but nothing substantially awesome. The 2.5 update was the best in my mind - the admin interface was nearly perfect after that upgrade.

But sadly, the WP dashboard don’t work on the iPhone Safari. I’ve been searching for a nice iPhone app or WP plugin to make that happen. I think the answer is definitely here in the WordPress for iPhone app - a native app for the iPhone which you just configure with your blog details. Very cool. But sadly, not released as of yet.

In the meantime, I’ve found WPhone - a WordPress plugin that you install on your server, and then activate. Once activated, when you login from your iPhone, you can just check a box that activates a very cutdown version of the admin pages, and actually works pretty well. I like it so far.

edit: while playing around with WordPress things, I thought a new theme would be fun too. Just need to work out why Twitter isn’t working anymore.

And since I’ve done all that nerdiness tonight, I’m going to have some fun with a meme. It has been a while. Some of the questions are a bit stupid, but still fun.

a. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.
b. Using only the first page of search results, pick an image.
c. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into FD’s mosaic maker.

1. What is your first name?
2. What is your favourite food?
3. What high school did you go to?
4. What is your favourite colour?
5. Who is your celebrity crush?
6. Favourite drink?
7. Dream vacation?
8. Favourite dessert?
9. What do you want to be when you grow up?
10. What do you love most in life?
11. One word to describe you.
12. Your flickr name.

new theme

Quite sophisticated eh?

It’ll change a bit over the next day or so while I fix it up a little.

edit: getting there. and dammit, why is it that coding is so time-consuming? I just looked at the look and realised it’s after midnight.

being a user

I have comment moderation enabled, and have from the start of using Wordpress, because I get around 50 spam comments per week on WP, but got barely any on Blogger. Weird. That’s the only downside to WordPress I reckon.

Anyway, I changed the comments around a tad so you can now create yourself as a user, and then can just comment whenever and bypass moderation. All you need is an email address - the system will email you a password, and then you’re in.

upgrade

Watching the soccer on tv… sort of.

In the meantime I’ve been sitting in the corner of the loungeroom upgrading my blog to 2.3.3 of Wordpress. It was the first upgrade I did, and it worked beautifully. Hooray! The only crap bit was that a funky little code hack in the post editor page that fixed an issue in Safari doesn’t work anymore. So I will write up a forum post asking the coding geniuses if they can find the same fix in the 2.3.3 code.

Happy 5th Birthday!

Hooray for 5 years of steady blogging!

I don’t think I’ve ever had more than a week or so off from blogging in 5 years. And in celebration of 5 years, I actually fixed the archives so you can go back and look at the first posts I wrote in February 2003 as I began university… and shudder like I did.

Oh how on earth did I go on so long with Blogger when glorious WordPress was right here?

Still getting some things sorted out… the template isn’t quite right, neither is the header. But I will get there. Will write more soon.

update: fixed a couple of things up. Can’t quite get my list of links to show up, and I can’t quite work out why the white background stops at the bottom of the sidebar. How strange. But I like this template.

I will post more about my weekend later tonight.

update #2: ok, my archives are throwing me 403 errors. And I have no idea why. I haven’t customised them except by putting them in a dropdown menu. Any assistance would be lovely.
